This project is split into many segments; this description aims to be an overview over all the segments and taking a holistic view of the project.
This project aims to build a space station in space. The outcome of the project will be a space station that can be self-sufficient to a large degree and be financially viable thru mining, manufacturing and research. It will also act as a crucial node in helping the human race explore and colonize other planets.
The ISS International space station, which is the only habitable space station, is no longer supported. The Dark Star will take over its role as the main hub for space exploration. The need for a space station that can maintain, repair and provide resources in space is a crucial if not the most important aspect for further space exploration. The intent for the project is to create, fund, design, build and maintain a space station for the foreseeable future. The business of running a private space station will rely on gathering recourse that does not come from earth.
The justification for gathering the incredible amount of resources that is required to build a space station will be that the station itself can provide new sources of income rather than exploiting the earth for that purpose. Funding of the project will be an important aspect for the project and might affect scope of the project goals.
The benefits of having a large space station will be a game changer for human kind and a historic event in homo-sapiens history. Using it as a starting point for exploration and mining operations will lower the cost of such projects so that they bring new business opportunities. Upon completion the project can offer accommodations, storage, spacecraft service, maintenance and repairs. It will also be producing materials and components to sell by mining resources that are in the area. It can offer research opportunities and production capabilities for companies or nations on earth. These enablers will result in the Dark Star space station being economically viable for many years to come. The cost of building the space station will be crowd funded by selling accommodations, citizenship's, production capabilities, business rights and other services on the space station. The aim will be to bring income on the first day upon completion.
The approach to completing the goals of the project will be to crowd fund the first steps of the project. When the first steps of the project have been completed we will purchase the transportation of our build and mining drones to space by cheapest alternative available at that point in time. The drones will start production of the station by setting up mining and station building material production facility. When the first habitable area is completed the first humans will arrive to further increase development pace. Most of the resources will hence not be coming from planet earth for the production and build of the station. The project setup will use an agile approach and completion of certain tasks may be more efficient to outsource. This will keep the origination slim and effective.
The first steps of the project will be to find funding for the creation and setup of the project which will be followed by a longer phase where technology, engineering, design and build plans will be completed. When the plans are ready the project enters next phase that will include physical execution of the plans by building the drones and transporting them to space. Drone launch is expected in 2035.
